How to: Label a disk or diskette without having to format the diskette.
Solution:
Display the 'Diskettes' properties sheet and enter a disk label up to 11 characters long.
1) Double-click the 'My Computer' icon. (The 'My Computer' window appears.)
2) Select the floppy drive icon.
3) Select the 'File' menu from the 'My Computer' window and select 'Properties'. (The '<drive> Properties' dialog box appears, where <drive> is the floppy drive you selected in step 2).)
4) Type a disk label in the 'Label' box. (The label may be up to 11 characters -- 8-characters with a 3-character extension -- and must comply with filename rules.)

NOTE: If there is no available disk space, the 'Label' box will be grayed out.
5) Click 'Apply' and click 'OK'.
